FARGO — A would-be burglar's attempt to break into a Fargo home ended with the home's owner hitting him in the face with a shotgun.
The Fargo Police Department received a call for a burglary in progress at a home in the 1400 block of Sixth Street South around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The woman who called dispatchers said the suspect had smashed out one of her home's windows and was trying to climb inside through the opening.
The woman's husband armed himself with a shotgun and threatened to shoot the intruder if he kept trying to get inside.
When the suspect tried climbing through the window the homeowner hit him in the face with the stock of the shotgun.
The intruder then ran away before police arrived.
Officers later found and arrested Matthew Florence. Florence, 39, is being held in the Cass County Jail on suspicion of attempted felony criminal trespass.
Florence and the homeowners did not know each other, police said.
